Cam surge
#2
Cam surge is caused by a larger cam. Basically at low RPM, the cam makes the car act like it has a random misfire (although it's not actually misfiring). Because the larger cams hold both the intake and exhaust valves open for a short time, it can cause a reduced amount of power to be produced by each cylinder in a random sort of way. This causes the car to surge and buck, sometimes violently. How much cam surge you have depends on the size of the cam, and what kind of tuning you have. Good tuning can go a long way towards eliminating surge. I have a bigger cam (Comp XE 230/236-112), but very little surge.
