I just installed a new cam and heads. Now the car will not start. It seems like the timeing is out, but I really think I have the opti in right. the car cranks fast then real slow but it will not fire. any ideas

Yah, I'm gonna go with rocker arms too tight. Start over on your lash.

Re: cam swap problems

Thanks guys, I will try the valves. this is my 1st cam swap on the lt1 engine. I have done several on other sbc but not the lt1. I was worried about the opti.

Re: cam swap problems

As far as the opti goes, as long as it sat in flush with the timing cover (ie, you didn't try to force it flush w/ the bolts), you should be OK.

The dowel pin can't go into the other slots on the opti unless you beat it on with a 2x4.

Re: cam swap problems

I MAY have found the problem, the clip that holds the wiring harness to the opti is broken off. Maybe its not making a good connecton. What do you guys think? I went ahead and ordered a new one, but its going to take about a week to get it. So I wont be able to even see if thats the problem untill I get it.

Re: cam swap problems

I haven't seen an opti harness that ISN'T cracked...mine is pretty much destroyed and Javier's is cracked too. I ordered one last Monday and it still hasn't arrived!

It's definitely a possibility...

Re: cam swap problems

call me crazy but i think you're going to end up spending a lot of money real quick if you get that thing runnning. A stock timing chain, with a heads, cam and SC motor is just a deathwish.

Re: cam swap problems

its not "technically" a deathwish..I know PLEANTY of people who run with a stock chain with no problems (myself included)
