Cam and TC question?

Cam and TC question?
I am looking to buy a cam and torque converter in the near future.
I am looking for a streetable cam that makes good power and a TC that compliments the cam but is still easy to drive in traffic.
If it's not asking to much could you tell me where to get them and how much they cost.
Thanks,
Dustin

If you want things to be very streetable go light, like a hotcam or cc305 and a 2800-3200 stall. The cam and the stall both cost about 800 ea.(cam, rockers, springs, timing chain, etc) So if you can find them paired up you should find a deal. If you get a dyno tune and have good traction for you see BIG gains together.

See the mods in my sig.
Althought a 2800 stall speed would probably be a little more driveable for ur application.
Hot Cam kit = Range from $475-$525
Vigilante TC = $700
I got my Cam kit at a GM performance parts dealer cuz i know the ppl there and they gave me a good deal.
I got the TC from www.ls1speed.com who has killer prices.

dont go anyhting over a 2700 2800 stall becuase you have obd1 and there is a know problem with obd1 pcm and a high stall (over 3000) and some times the tuning fix for it works and sometimes it doesnt, and then if it dont you have 2 choices to pull the convertor or go to obd2.
just giving you a heads up.
an dif you go with a lt4 hot cam or a 305. i dont think you need to go above 2500 stall.

Go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and order the HOTcam kit. Part #12480002. They are selling it for $476.77, and that's a bargain. That's the cam, roller rockers, retainers, shims etc. You might want to upgrade the valvesprings, but that's about $40 or so. You'll need a new timing chain. I simply replaced mine with a new stock one because I have an electric waterpump that takes some strain off of the timing chain(stock waterpump is driven by the timing chain/gears). I think the stock chain was about $20.
Now for the torque converter- Get in touch with midwest converters- www.raceconverters.com 1-800-554-2668. I bought my converter from them. It's a 2800 stall, 9.5" with a full size lock up housing, heavy duty bearings, anti balloon plate etc. The best thing is, $455 shipped to my door, made to my specs. What you need to do is call them, they'll ask you some questions, and then build a converter exactly for you. IMO they can't be beat for the price, their product and their customer service. I could not be happier with my converter or how they treated me. Compare their price to $700+ for other comparable converters.
So there, I just showed you how to save a lot of money. Also, when you get the car back together, get a mail order tune from PCMforless- www.pcmforless.com

sorry it took so long for a reply, my internet is down at my house and I had to wait to get to school to post. but any way i think i want to go a little bigger cam than a hot cam, what are the specs on the cc305 and tell me about the Xe 224/230. How street friendly is the xe 224/230 and does it give you good power.

From what I've seen the HOTcam and the cc305 are pretty close in terms of power. The HOTcam is a tad bit smaller, but I'd save the money and get the HOTcam. As far as streetability on the 224/230 I don't know.

Go to www.summitracing.com look up part #CCA-07-503-8 Is that the one you want?
I would try to calculate it for 1.6 for you but I suck in math. You're on your own. Well screw it, here's a guess- intake 536.5/exhaust 544.
I'm sure someone will let me know if I'm wrong. That would probably be ok on the street. Just remember, the bigger the cam, the higher stall you need, and that takes away from street manners. If you can live with it fine.

Thanks everyone for the replies. also does anyone out there have an xe 224/230 and a 2800 stall. if so tell me how it run on the street and if you could give me some numbers on it ( ie. 1/4 mile times and rwhp). I would really appresiate(sp) that.
Thanks,
Dustin
