Cams
Hey, I have a stock 96 SS a4... wanting to get a cam... I have heard alot about the cc305 and xe224/230.. Which one of these would give me the most power? And can i use these with my stock setup?? Anyone have sound files of these cams on their cars? Thanks

why though? i dont want to spend all my money on minor mods that dont do anything... Stuff like throttle bodies and maf's dont really help until you are really sucking in air... I'd rather get major power adders now..

agree on SOME bolt ons. a bigger cam and head work will suck more air but it has to have somewhere to go. the stock exhuast manifolds are terrible. the same for the cat-back. if you just want some big bang for the buck shoot some NOS into it.

I like the CC305 in my car, it runs really nice. You won't be getting 50 hp from either of those cams anyway. I wish I had a sound clip for it, it has a VERY nice idle. Also, like they said, get all the bolt ons. Long tube headers and 3" exhaust will be perfect. Along w/ the cam you need to put 1.6 rockers and upgrade the springs and all the other things that go along w/ a cam.

Yeah, I had planned on getting headers when I did that I forgot to mention it... How much horsepower would I gain from a CC305 with hooker lt's vs. xe 224/230 with lt's?? And are these cams really lopey or are they streetable?

The 305 isn't extremely lopey, but it has a very nice idle sound, somewhat choppy, but because the 305 is on a 114 lsa, the 224/230 @ 112 lsa probably has a little more lope to it. You'll probably make about the same amount of power with either cam on stock heads. But I'd say you could get about 50 rhwp w/ either of those cams and long tube headers. Be sure to add a 3" exhaust system, too.
And the CC305 cam will work with any gear ratio and any stall as well.

The hotcam is just a tad smaller than those other two, but basically comparable (Hot cam = 218/228 .525/.525 @ 112 lsa vs. CC305= 220/230 .544/.544 @ 114 lsa vs. 224/230 .535/.544 @ 112 lsa). The hot cam will have a choppier idle than the 305 because of the 112 lsa. Although, my 305 compared to some of the hot cams I've heard sounds just as nice at idle. Yes CC = Comp Cams
