Can the Camshafter Retainer plate be welded on with cast iron block

I snapped one of the small bolts that hold the cam retainer plate and have made a mess out of trying to drill it...its doesnt seem likely at this point that i can re-thread it....i was thinking of using an arc welder to weld on the retainer but ive read horror stories about arc welding on cast iron....anyone have any input or ideas/

it can be done but you have to be VERRYY GOOOD! so i'd say if your anything less than a master welder then don't try it.

Hell no, get someone who knows what they are doing to get the bolt out and fix it. Now its going to cost more since you worked on it and made it worse......

I would strongly recommend against welding it. Plus, if you need to change the cam at some point, you will be screwed...

The motor I put together for Penz on this site had the plate spot welded on when we took the motor apart. We were both like WTF. I took a screwwdriver and hammer and hit it 1 time and it fell on the floor. I wish I would have taken a pic of it first. The guy who assembled the motr before us must have been a real idiot.
