They are usually stuck pretty well. A search should pull up quite a few threads on the subject.

I used a small 3-arm puller on mine, but I have a vette so I don't know exactly what will work in an F-body.

Re: can't get my crank balancer off

One time when I tried to take mine off, my dumb *** forgot to take out the bolt first. After taking out the bolt, it came right off.

Re: can't get my crank balancer off

The outer part with the pulley usually needs to be tapped off with a plastic or brass hammer. The three legged hub needs to be pulled with a puller. If you are putting the puller bolt in the middle and screwing it in it will never come off.GM put a lip for the head of the bolt to rest on.It is not like a old SBC that was completely open in the middle. You have to leave the stock bolt(just leave in screwed in a bit) in there to get is started an then move to a longer bolt to finish removing it.I think it is a 7/16 bolt if I remember right.A a old SBC head bolt is the right thread size.

The crank hub bolt is fine thread. A head bolt is coarse thread. You will trash the threads in the crank if you try to put a head bolt in there.

Re: can't get my crank balancer off

I just went through this... I got a puller from the auto parts store, and then get a 4" long Grade 8 bolt that will be just smaller in diameter than the threads in the crank shaft (so you arent threaded in) and push off the bolt. Some pullers wont be able to push off the bolt without slipping off so check to see what kinds you have access to. The one I ended up using had different threaded inserts that you could put in the end so I just put the head of the bolt I was pushing off of into that hole and it came right off. A little heat never hurts either.
