Car is acting odd every once in a while...
Ok, well today as i started my car up to come home from work, there was two consecutive beeps and the security light came on. Then, as I left, I saw my tach jumping literally up and down for no reason. Like according to it, i would rev PAST the end of the tach when i was just driving normally where i would normally be at like 2500-3000. Then, as I rolled to a stop sign and stopped my car, the idle dropped to less than 500 rpm, and then surged back up, and dropped back down again and kept surging. So I drove it out ontot he street some more and jumped on the throttle. MASSIVE hesitation. It felt like i lost 100hp. So I turned the car off at the next stopsign and started it back up (this was after it continued to idle surge). After i started it back up, no more surge. Idled at 750-800ish and the tach didnt jump up when i revved it. I still felt a little hesitation however when i jumped on the throttle after that but the car built up power as the revs got higher, unlike the normally linear torque feel.
I'm guessing that something in the ignition is screwed up somewhere. I get 10-12mpg city driving normally, and 17 highway in 6th gear non stop (250 miles MAX), so it is running rich still, even after a PCMforLess tune. Now, I dont think it is the tune, since the car did feel a little more responsive after the tune, I'm starting to think that something else is wrong. I currently have a friend's ported stock MAF on the car instead of the granitelli. He drove the car around one night and told me my ignition was missing, although it doesnt stutter hard until the higher gears at a low RPM. I bought new spark plugs but havent installed them (TR55), and a Scanmaster is SUPPOSEDLY on the way from LS1Speed, but I havent recieved it after two weeks of "backorder" status. Also, as the car gets over 6000ish RPM, the car basically misses hard and starts crackling, so I'm guessing spark blowout.
Do those coniditions sound like a failing opti? Any other help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Shawn

When my opti went out I had huge hesitation, sporatic and random engine revs, and a pretty severe loss of power. I believe I just listed all the same symptoms that you're having. My guess would be to wait for the scanner and see if it throws a code, but more than likely, your opti is failing. When my opti went out I was throwing somewhere around 9 codes, all having to do with air/fuel mixtures because I wasn't getting a good spark.
Definately get it checked out if this is your daily driver.

o2's and coil are both brand new with less than 1k miles on them, both are Delco parts too, none of the generic crap.
The thing was, as the tach was jumping up and down, the car wasnt running too horrid other than the crappy idle and the massive hesistation. The tach was basically very far off from what the actual motor was revving at the time.
I hope I get the scanmaster soon. I ordered it from LS1Speed on the 28th of may, and I got my plugs a week or so later, but nothing as far as teh scanmaster yet. And all they'll tell me is "it's backordered and it should be there soon"
