Car dead on freeway, help! We have the codes.
Im posting this for my brother who is sitting on the highway right now. His car sputtered and died in the middle of a race on I35. His scanmaster is telling him weird ****, code 18 and code 46 i believe. One is for the passkey thingy and the other is injector circuit. He says when he tries to start the car it will crank but it wont start. What is this injector circuit thing? We need help bad.

Check all the fuses for the fuel injectors, i believe there are 2 of them rated at 7.5 amps each. and i believe they are under the hood. the pass key code is related to the key and the small "chip" in that key which is just a glorified resistor. if the injector fuse or fuses are bad replace them and see if that solves the problem. good luck

The Pass-Key will disable the injectors if it fails to read the key. If it was already running and then died, the injector code could be a secondary indicator of the Pass-Key failure.
Maybe the plug that goes from the column to the dash harness came unplugged?

So should check the wires from under the steering wheel? I installed a system in my car today and do you think i could have messed up a wire because i was messing with those wires today. I had to take off the plastic piece that was in the way of my stereo reciever. I will check the wires but do you know what color the wire is by freak chance? Thanks

If you were under there, you might have caused a problem. Or you might have disturbed the connector or pinched a wire where the other end is at the theft deterrent module that is just to the right of the radio on the air bag bracket.
Hope that helps. I am signing off for the night.

I checked that connector and it looks fine. The little chip thing in my key is loose do you think that could be the problem? I am going to disconnect the battery and try my other key. I guess if that doesnt work i will just have to tow it to the dealership or something. I just dont know what to do.

Any security light? I have never heard of a key with the pellet loose. I guess that could cause a problem if it gets in a position where it cannot be read by the key cylinder. Maybe your other key will work.

The other key didnt work. I have a 95 and dont have a security light. My car is dead on the side of the road, i checked the only thing that it could be and everything looks fine. Is there anything else it could possibly be? Maybe a fuse? I checked the ones underneath the hood and they are all fine but arent there fuses somewhere else? ANY help is appreciated i am desperate.

Did you check around where you did the recent radio work?
Did you check the pcm ign and courtesy fuses?

They both provide power to different parts of the theft deterrent module

Then i guess there it is then. I only have one problem now. My car just HAD to die on the overpass of I-35. It is on the shoulder and there are cars whizzing by an inch from my driver side door. Therefore i cant open it to get to the fuses. Thanks for all of your help shoebox. You are seriously a lifesaver for me. How do you know so much....................its almost scary.

Well, no luck on the fuses. they all look good. This is really weird. She's being towed tomorrow. I guess we'll see what Colvin Automotive can do. Thanks for the help guys.
