car is getting hot after driving a short time

I have replaced my water pump recently and now the car is getting hot after I drive it a short time and kill the engine. When I start it back up after a just a short time and drive it the temperature rises quickly. I read a couple of threads that suggest bleeding the air from the lines. I just wanted to know if anyone had any other suggestions. It does this with or without the thermostat.

Are you sure you installed the water pump drive shaft correctly?

bleeding the lines

I will bleed the lines again. It is my understanding that I need to bleed the valves until only coolant comes out and not air.

Bleeding the system usually solves the problem. If it doesnt work in
your case, ensure you installed the driving/driven gear shaft coupler.

i just topped off the coolant and let it idle for about 10 minutes and opened the bleeder valves and now just coolant came out. This is the first time just coolant came out and not just air. I am going to test drive and see if it gets hot.

it takes a few heat cycles to get enough coolant in the engine. so check it a couple more times after you drive it. obviously let it cool off then pull the cap and see if the radiator is still full. then just add more in the resevoir tank if its low or add more to the radiator.

Well I just bought a car and the guy "just put a waterpump on and its overheating".
He forgot to put the sleeve on the back of the waterpump that connects the two drive gears. take a look at this picture and see if you remeber putting it on...

the water pump shaft is installed correctly. is there anything else that may cause it to run hot. today it was running fine while i was driving for about 15 minutes and then the temperature gauge started to rise slowly. it did start to run hot about 5 minutes later.

You did fill it with a water antifreeze mix and not just water right? I've filled cars with just water before because they were leaking, and it will run hotter that way. (also I think this is bad for the radiator, something about pH level) And if you leave the front spoiler off it will run a lot hotter because less air passes over the radiator.
