well i took my car to the track friday night, and i hit the rev limiter like twice thinking that third would take me all the way through..well found out it didn't..

i ran a second time and shifted into fourth, but anyways..didn't notice it going home cause i had the radio up..but the next morning i drove somewhere and it had a really loud knock in it...when i first start it up its not there, then after a few miles it gets loud and i can hear it...i thought maybe it was a lifter..so i check them out..tightened some rocker arms that were pretty loose and it still does it..so i guess i'm gonna have to rebuild it or something.. i have full oil pressure, and it doesnt heat up on me, and doesn't effect the way it perfoms. so i have no clue..

i know it could be anything, but anyone have any ideas? thanks

Is it smoking, or when you pull the oil cap off does it have any blow by.

Could have bent a pushrod or a valve. What kind of knock? Like a valve train knock or a rod knock? Get a mechanics stesthescope (sp?) and listen until you zero in on the problem. Drain the oil and cut the filter open and look for metal. Check the compression. There's a few ideas that should keep you busy for a little bit.

sorry but what is blow by? when i had the valve cover off and it was running at 2k, the knock is coming from the driver side seem like its deeper than the valve, but can't hear it all that good from underneath the car..the pushrods are all ok..i had those out of the car..but yeah i'll check the oil and stuff.

The crankcase, that which contains the crankshaft and connecting rods, is the bottom side of the engine - you can see the bottom of the pistons from under there. Compressed fuel and air mixture burns in the cylinder on the top of the pistons. When the rings become tired and worn they allow some of this compressed and burning mixture to leak past and escape into the crankcase. That is called "blow by

loud knock = spun bearing 90% of the time... If you can't rebuild and must drive it keep a close eye on the oil pressure I would even recomend getting a good aftermarket meter. most times bad oil pressure will indicate a spun bearing but sometimes an engine will still have good oil pressure with a spun bearing. Otherwise tear it down ASAP so you don't have catastrophic failure and risk the block.

I thought I had a knock one time after I raced it but it turned out to be the back bolt on my exshaust manifold had broke off and it did it at start up after it warmed up it would quite. So I was like WTF? It sounded just like a knock I even cheaked the rockers but turns out thats all it was. Just a suggestion

yeah, mine is the opposite..at start up and for about five mins it doesn't knock but then it slowly starts to knock..yeah i checked all my header bolts the other day and they were good.thanks for the advice though..just waiting to get a lil more time and fund and i'm gonna tear it completly down and go from there. but gotta get it done asap since this is my only driver,lol.
