Car overheating!?!?Help!!
Ok so here it is....
It's winter where i am now, snow on the ground, about 20-30 out.
1. If i let my car sit, it will slowly overheat, well raise in temp pretty high(almost in the red).
2. If i drive it it overheats, but when i turn on my heat, cold air comes out....
3. Also, the past couple days i was able to get the heat to drop by turning OFF the heat, then puttin some pettle to the metal... no longer works. Need help!
4. Fluids full, everything appears to be normal!
i'm thinking maybe i need to flush my radiator system or somthing? Any ideas would be great! thanks again.
Oh 88 grand on the engine

Re: Car overheating!?!?Help!!
could be an air pocket in the system but I doubt it. Make sure that the H2O pump isn't making any funky noises. Also, always make sure that the coolant cap is totally on or things can heat up quick and start spewing fluid everywhere!!!

Re: Car overheating!?!?Help!!
As far as the overheating goes, it doesn't sound like you have a problem there to me. The fans are set to turn on at a rediculously high temperature, not sure what exactly but its just a little below the red zone (~240?) You can get that programed to be lower though.

Re: Car overheating!?!?Help!!
Well man that sucks! If I were you I'd take a couple of minutes and pull the thermostat totally out and see what it does. I've bought new "bad" parts before. How long is it taking to overheat once you start it?

Well.. it won't hurt to try a flush and fill.
Have you looked at your radiator? I'd guess that it's in perfect shape.. but you never know.
And does it overheat, even if you are cruising? Or just sitting in stop and go?
Double check the T-Stat... would hate for it to just be installed incorrectly or something.

Re: Car overheating!?!?Help!!
the first thing you should have done is bleed the system. That makes sure that there is no air in the system blocking the collant from doing its job. Once you have done that check to make sure that your oil is not milky looking. If it is you might have a crack in your head hasket letting the air in. Also check your cap. If the spring is old you might want to replace that. If there isnt enough pressure on your system it will not work right......I have been through all this before and i had the worst a cracked head gasket.......let me know if you have any more questions

Re: Car overheating!?!?Help!!
Sounds like an air pocket to me too, but if it wasnt doing it before and no variables had changed (except the weather) then I would check and be sure that the coolant is not starting to slush up in the radiator core (water/ antifreeze ratio). Especially if it is very cold outside.
