Exclamation Car rumbles and almost starts, but doesnt.

Hey guys, still learning alot about the Lt1 so go easy on me, and as always, THANKS for reading.

My car:

'93 Z28 5.7L Camaro with 36,442 miles on it. It has a new battery, and the only mod is a Magnaflow exhaust after the catalyst converter (which has been running smooth since I did it two months ago.)

Ok, it seemed like this week the car wasn't putting out as much power as it normally did, but I was hoping it was my imagination. I have no numbers behind this but it felt more like I was driving an S10 when I put on the gas than Z28.

Thats just background. Today, I went to start the car and the ignition kicks in and it starts to rumble but then doesnt "catch" and the car dies (if die is the correct term). I think the battery is fine, because all the lights, stereo, ect, work when the car is off.

I wish I had more info to give you all but I am a noob.

Thanks so much for reading this, and your help. Please save me =(

Scan the ECM for codes. It's easy on your 93. Just short the ALDL pins and count the flashed on the SES light.

Then look them up on this chart - note 93 is a separate column:

Check out Shoebox's Tech Pages.... lots of help there.

Re: Car rumbles and almost starts, but doesnt.

I feel like an idiot, but after sitting in the car for two hours counting flashes I though I would ask:

How exactly do I count them? The "Service Engine Soon" light comes on just like the tutorial describes: Flash, pause, flash flash, long pause -- and keeps going.

I counted that sequence as one flash, and gave up at 200 (seeing how the chart only goes up to 99 I figured that was safe)

What am I doing wrong.

Oh, and I just learned I can get the car to start if I feed it gas while turning the ignition, if that points you in a direction.

Thanks for your help thus far!

lol, no.

Ive been using the stock intake system with a brand new K&N filter. Just today (after this whole mess) I took out the stock box and stuck a Cyndrilical K&N on the intake elbow.
