Re: Car Is Running So Bad I Want 2 Cry - HELP PLEASE

You're not getting help because you won't check things that people have suggested as far back as the 20th. Like Fred suggested, check the fuel pressure. I noticed you lived in SD. Could the fuel lines have moisture in them and it's now freezing creating a restriction? Doing as Fred said would find out.

Someone else suggested you disconnect the O2's. I didn't see where you said it runs poorly only when cold or hot. If it runs good until it warms up and then runs crappy, the O2's might help. If it runs crappy both cold and hot it probably won't help but it only takes a few moments to eliminate the possibility.

You have to eliminate some items and then move on. Best to start with the easy things and work to the harder items. Also a check of the rudimentary items like fuel, compression (or leak down) and spark would be prudent at this time.

To me it sounds just like a plug or 2 is not firing. A quick check for any dead holes would also be applicable here. Check your oil for the smell of fuel when you can also.

I did check the fuel pressure, and changed the filter for the hell of it... and that is fine. I unplugged the 02's as well the other day, and the car seemed to run fine with them unplugged. That is why I was asking if it's the 02's since when there unplugged everything seems alright.

I'd still say replace the O2 sensors.

Yeah, I'm going to get a second opinion from a local well trusted Mechanic and if he confirms I'm going to replace them... I just wanted to have a good idea before I had someone else look at it. Hopefully I can get the problem resolved, kinda hard to find time working 35 hours a week and going to highschool... but we're on break so I'm gonna spend some time on the beast.

Re: Car Is Running So Bad I Want 2 Cry - HELP PLEASE

I guess it could be a blown head gasket, the car is puffing white smoke like crazy, and is now running crappy from the time I start it, through almost any rpm's... guess I need to find some time and do a compression test. I figure if it is, it must be missing on the passenger side head somewhere... because when it backfires and crap it sounds like it's coming from that side. Friday is my next day off, I'm going to check the compression, and see if my cat could be clogged. I helped a friend replace a clogged cat, and his car wasn't running like mine.

Blown head gasket? Check your oil, if milky it's a good sign of blown head gasket. Your opti could have taken a crap. I bought three new optis and within six months they were bad. I now have delteq, no more backfiring, sputtering, rough iding, bogging, acting stupid when warm(closed loop).I admit that the delteq can be a little expensive, but I swear by it. Now your optical sensor in your opti-crap has to be good for the system to work, but its worth the try. I had to buy the opti minus cap and rotor to get a good sensor, re-used my old cap, but it worked and I have no regrets. I think you can get the opti without cap and rotor from any autoparts store for like 160.00. Now the delteq is a little higher, but if you are planning on keeping your LT1, then it's a good investment.

I checked the oil, it needs to be changed, but it's not milky. I don't think it's the opti because the car still starts so good, even if you shut it off, and re-start right away it starts right up. It's really hard to say what it actually is, just gonna have to go with the trial and error method. The car ran fine, then one day ran like it does now.

Just because it starts right up does not mean that your opti-crap is not bad. If the opti sensor is bad, it will still start and run, but it will not run very good once it warms up. Also if the bearings in your opti are bad, it will still start and run, but run very poorly. Get it scanned by the dealership, at least you'll know for sure, but don't let them fix it, they will try to rape you. Price qoute from dealership, 1245.00 to replace opti.
