Car won't turn on

Car won't turn on
I have a 1995 Camaro and when I try to turn on my car it just cranks but never fully turns on unless I hold the gas down. I have a k&n filter kit but I took off the filter and forgot to pit it back on. Do you think this would cause my car not to turn on? Thanx in advance

Re: Car won't turn on
Let's make sure we're all on the same page. When you turn the key to start the engine, the starter engages and the starter cranks the engine over. The engine will not actually start to run, unless you hold the accel pedal on the floor while cranking it with the starter. Once it starts, you can release the pedal, and the engine runs normally.
IS THE ABOVE AN ACCURATE RESTATEMENT OF YOUR PROBLEM?
A missing air filter will not cause the engine not to start. If you removed the complete K&N CAI, including the MAF sensor, then you might have a problem.

Re: Car won't turn on
Yes correct except for the last statement that the car's rpms are at 1500 at idle and they go up and Down for no reason for the first 5 minutes and if I try to go anywhere my car stalls in those first couple of minutes but after it runs fine.

Re: Car won't turn on
The PCM is programmed to elevate the idle RPM when the engine (coolant) is cold, but not to 1,500 RPM.
When you hold the accel pedal on the floor, that puts the PCM into "clear flood" mode. It cuts fuel from the injectors, and lets fresh air clear the flooded condition. Appears you may have leaking injectors, flooding the cylinders. Or its richening the cold start A/F ratio too much. Possibly a problem with the coolant temp sensor for the PCM (the one in the water pump housing).

Re: Car won't turn on
Rather than just start playing parts replacement roulette (you will always lose), test the sensor:
