Castrol Syntec On Sale!

Went shopping today for Castrol Syntec 0w-30 MADE IN GERMANY today as suggested by many members and oil analysis tests.

Napa doesnt have it, nor does Wal Mart. Walmart did have 0w-40 M1 which is new for them and also has been suggested for use. 4.77 a quart, nothing in 5qt containers.

Autozone finally had it. The german made stuff is thrown in with the US stuff, same spot on the shelf.

KEY DIFFERENCES IN PACKAGING:
German made:
Says made in germany on back
"ow-30" written in black lettering on red box
Green sunburst back ground with red halo over it
Bottom part number on back = LBL 068 E

US made
"0w-30" written in black lettering on yellow box
"Patented Stabilizers" written across top
"Castrol" written in red
"The active lubricant" written in red slash bar under "syntec"
Bottom part number on back = LBL 068 B

Also, autozone currently has it on sale for 3.99 a quart, not a bad deal.

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

Mobile one is actually pretty thin for its weight, so a 40 weight mobile one is more like a 30 weight standard oil. Most will not say that m1 is a bad oil, but finding the correct weight for our cars is hard. 0w-40 seems to be the best m1 choice from what i have read. I personally ran 15w-50 m1 in my car before the new motor went in and it held up to serious 7k rpm stock bottom end abuse. The bearings nor oil pressure never failed.

With that being said, i just built a 383 which emptied my bank account. People who really seem to know oil and done studies on it have reccommended the 0w-30 castrol. Im willing to give it a shot and see how i like the results. I also took up their advice and went with a NAPA gold filter, which are made by WIX. Wix also gets very high ratings as a filter.

Good thread...

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

So the Castrol straight 30 and the Napa gold filter are the best combo for our engines?

Bought 20 qts of german castrol a week ago @ 3.99 a qt... at autozone. She questioned me at the register, came up to be $5.39/qt. So i took her manager back to the sign that they obviously forgot to take down. lol

This should do me for a while.

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

I had originally posted 4.99 a quart, but it was 3.99, typo. Limit 12 qts, so i hit up 2 different autozones. Sales come in handy when you need 8qts per change, lol.

Yes from oil analysis tests, straight german made 30wt castrol and either a wix (napa gold same) or the KN filters are good bets. They have shown significant less wear than other combos.

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

I've been trying to find some M1 0W-40 for my BMW but MY Walmart doesn't carry it for some reason. You sure yours does?

Well, I'll probably just go with Castrol then. That's what it has in it right now.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

So Castrol Syntec 0w30 and a K&N HP3002 oil filter are pretty much a must have and can be bought at auto zone?

Haha. I stock piled the Mobil filters back when Kmart has their closing sale. I got a lot of funny looks walking about with nothing but oil filters.

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

It's $5.39 a quart ~$32 per six at my local zone. They guy even checked out their "on sale" fliers and it wasn't listed there either. Mobil 1 is the same price. Walmart does not carry either of these and it's a supercenter too.
The sale must be regional.

Re: Castrol Syntec On Sale!

Positive it was M1 0w-40 at walmart, because i had never seen it there before. It had a black cap on it. Supercenter here too.

The one autozone i went to had the sale sign up saying limit 2 cases, 3.99 a quart. The other autozone didnt have any fliers up, but it rang in the sale price.
