CC305 or XE 224/230

I was pretty sure that I was going to get the CC305. The reason for this was that it would be a very streetable cam for a daily driver. With the new deal Combination Motorsports is offering, i started thinking about that cam. I need it to keep decent vacume and gas mileage. What is the difference between these two cams? Is this a good cam for a daily driver, or might it be too big? I was also thinking of the 218/224, but am not sure about either cam now. Please help!
Thanks,

JJ

The cc305 is a little nicer to the valvetrain while the cc503 has steeper ramps and a lower LSA. It is really up to you...

I was hoping to try and get either cam on a 114 lsa. I don't want it to sound like I have a huge cam in there and i want it to idle decent.

I have the 224/230 cam and love it. I will say it does eat alot of gas, But that can be my setup. You will need tuning with these cams. I know people will say you can go with stock tuning but I throw all kinds of check eng. lights and it idled way low. And they do sound mean.

Definitely sounds mean *** hell, but doesnt sound like its gonna stall on ya, just sounds like it can kick the *** of every other car on the road. I have no vacuum probs with braking, the power steering is a little tough on a cold morning right away. Ive been driving on stock tune for 2 weeks and its fine, I know Im in for a shock once I get it tuned though. All around its great cam, I have a sound clip in another thread, search for 224/230 and youll find it.

I've heard the soundlips...their bad *** on both of them. I have LT1 edit so tuning is no problem. I have a tune for a CC305 though that someone sent me by email once, so thats a big plus.

What type of gas mileage are you getting?

What type of gas mileage is everyone else getting with either the cc305 or the xe 224/230

I'm getting about 190 miles to a tank. I have a 2800 stall converter (a4) with 3.73 gears. I'm working on the tuning with edit and it was worse with stock tuning.

I get 190 highway miles. Like I said it is probably 3.73's and the converter too. As for passing it on stock tuning, I don't think it would pass. It runs kinda rich on that tuning. Mail tune would definently help. I use LT1edit for my tuning and have no problems passing. I am very please with this cam and would recommend it to anybody. It sounds good and preformed just as well.

I'm going to be running the CC305, I know that one will pass for sure, no mater what type as long as its tuned right. I sorta like the bad nasty cam sound, I think thats what I'm realy after. I just love the sound of a cam'd car.

neil350,

do you mean to say that you have passed NJ emmisions (IM240) with the 224/230 (112 LSA), using LT1-edit. I've read a number of posts regarding this and untill now I haven't heard from anyone directly, saying they've passed (all been heresay). I think there's a guy (Rich) on the board who has it on 114LSA that has passed. Nice one, thats great to know.

Cheers Roman

The CC305 will pass NJ emsions or any for that matter, as long as it's tunned. Just look at the GMHTP 93 Formula 396, shorties, CC305 cam, pass' NJ smog just fine. I dont know about the other cam, people have passed non roller tests with CC306s, ChrisB did. But they lean it out and run the car hot, some thing i do not want to do. Rollers a whole different ball game, i got a buddy who just got a failry large cam, hes going to try and see if he can pass smog, Harris county were I live is now smogging on rollers, just like NJ.

I have the CC305 on my 93 along with AFR 190cc heads a 3000 vigilantee, 3.73 rear gears, 32 # injectors and 52mm t/B (motor is a 355 w/ 11:1). Last summer I drove from Oklahoma to Orlando Florida in this car and got an average on the interstate of 21.6 MPG. This was continuous 75 mph driving. Now when I drive around town or have my foot in it ,it gets very bad mileage...lol. I also knock down low 12s inthe 1/4 with a full weight leather equiped T/A in the summer heat.
