cc306 cam what heads?
We have a cc306 laying around the shop and i'm going to put it into a stock bottom end lt1. Witch heads would best match? Would it be better to send my stock ones out and get them ported? Or go with a le2 or something around there?

Re: cc306 cam what heads?
First the "need to match heads and cam" is grossly overstated, not to mention buying heads based on a cam would be putting the cart before the horse.
Then it seems you think having your stockers ported is different than "LE2", LE2 is a level of porting often applied to a stock head.

How much power you trying to make. cc306 works well on stock heads for a more racey setup. Ported heads it can make even more power however there are better choices available that will drive better and make more midrange power. CC306 doesnt come alive til abit higher in the power band. The Lobes are abit lazier and thus tend to lose some lower end power/tq.

Well a bolt on LT1 is about 350 hp at the motor. If you mean 350 at the tires on a dyno then its plausible that the 306 cam will do that on stock heads with a good tune/exhaust/air intake setup. Its been done before.
Now a mild cleaned up set of stock heads will give another 10-20 hp. Simple bowl blend of the valve seat, good valve job, clean up casting flash in the port, and maybe alittle valve guide work. Shouldnt be much more than a few hundred bucks of porting. 350 should be doable with that cam and mild set of heads. LE1 heads from lloyd are a great bang for the buck. A bit better setup would be Lloyd Elliott package, LE1 or so. You'll have the power with much better driveability than the 306 cam.
If you want a nasty sounding car tho, the cc306 is the cam for you.
