cc306 with Crane kit 10308-1

Starting to get parts together for the cam swap and also trying to keep the cost down. Will the Crane spring kit work with a cc306 cam? Also, will these springs fit right on my stock heads without having to pull them off?

Also thinking about proform 1.6 RRs.

In summary for my weekend warrior:

cc306
crane spring kit 10308
proform 1.6 NSA rockers
GMPP guide plates
Summit chromeoly pushrods
stock lifters (cleaned and functioning)
new GM opti
CM gasket set

Anyone have a mixed bag of parts running in their LT1?

Gonna try to do this at or around a grand.

Don't forget a timing chain. And I would do it right the 1st time, custom cam, better springs ect...

Ditch the cc306... you got a big stall going behind that?

Yes a new timing chain and eventually a stall. The question is can the Crane spring kit handle a cc306 and do they go in without machining. Any one running proforms with success with a higher lift cam?

The 306 and stock stall don't go very well together.

Yes the crane spring kit will work. I was thinking about going with it since it was alot cheaper than the 918's. I did a little research and the comp cam 918's are better springs, their lighter and can handle the high RPM's better. Their was an article in chevy hp and they swaped to the behive springs. They gained hp and moved their usable power band up. Made a big difference.

before anything with that cc306 you need a big stall converter.

Come on guys, are you telling me the car will not perform because I don't have a stall. I will get a stall when I rebuild my transmission which will be later. I'm sure to get everything out of the cc306 a stall is necessary, but it is not crucial to perform.

So the beehives made a HP difference, interesting. But will they go in stock heads without machining?

It won't run for **** with the stock stall and a 306. You will be ALOT faster with a stall and a stock cam that a 306 and stock converter.

ok. What if I dropped down to a cc503? Will a stall be as crucial to this cam as the cc306?

ya the 918's go in without machining and on that patucular engine they made like 40 more hp up top because the valvetrain was more stable.

O ya a cc305 will work better with stock stall, go to comp cams website and they will tell what must be done with each type of cam.
