Re: cc306 missing its topend

Why would take the vacuum line off during WOT runs? Taking the vacuum line off at idle simulates a WOT condition, so it would do nothing during a WOT run.

Bret Bauer said they are junk and people should stay away from them. Thats what he told me after i talked to him about getting a new set of lifters after my R's blew up. I'd say its safe to say Bret knows what he is talking about.

To bypass the FPR and to see what the fuel pump is doing during an actual WOT run.

I can't resist.... If Bret Bauer told you to jump in a lake.....
Honestly I know of several people to have fine success w/ Comp R's and is why I chose to use them. I will have a full report as it comes available as to whether or not at least the ones I use are "junk".

Re: cc306 missing its topend

i was thinking of going with those lifters but since i have started to hear bad things i have been reading more and more unhappy ending stories about them. I guess the question is if oem work why waste the money??

It all depends on the cam profile I reckon. I wouldn't trust OEM in something that has anywhere close to .600 lift. At this point I'm still not convinced all these reports of the R's being at fault weren't somehow caused by the installer.

Re: cc306 missing its topend update

Ok, I tested the fuel pressure an it holds strong at 40psi idle and goes up when i rev it up. I havent tested it at wot yet because i dont have a external way to do that yet. Anyway i think that rules that oout so im going to readjust my rockers and hope that works. I started it but didnt get to finish yet. If it still doesnt work i will have my springs tested.

IMO I think you are doing this backwards. While you have the rockers loose you can easily take the intake/exhaust springs of any given cylinder off. Just stuff the one of the cylinders with 1/4" nylon rope, crank the engine using a 5/8" socket on the crank snout bolt until it stops. That way the valves will not drop.
I'd rather do it that way to ensure the springs are not the problem and not to risk possible damage to the pistons and valves.
Do you know what springs you're running? Their rate? Install height? Seat pressure? Open pressure?

Re: cc306 missing its topend update

Ok heres an update.. i got my 918's on it and the 987's off. made only a little difference but it doesnt feel like valve float to me anymore because it pulls but just doesnt pull hard enough. so i guess i will do the exhaust and a CAI.

anyone know what the best lt1 style intake setup is?

I think an exhaust and cai would help uncork it alot.
