don't want to run a electric wp right now and this seems like a great upgrade since I am soon planning a custom mid-sized xfi grind cam. good price too.

Sounds like a stock type replacement. Non roller, etc.

does this sound like a good investment? seems beefier than stock with billet gears. I know most go with the double roller.. but I don't have the dough .

You have to realize that the timing chain has a gear on the back that turns the water pump. In order to get that gear you will need to buy one of these timing kits

NAL-12370835

LUN-93094

CCA-3207

I would post a picture for you, but my motor is at my parents house. I hope you understand what I'm saying. But if you buy the timing chain that you have above you will need to add an electric water pump. And if you are going to go EWP I would get this chain CLO-9-3145

If you look right above the timing chain there is a shaft, this turns the water pump. Well the gear thats on that shaft is turned by the gear that on the backside of the timing gear. Sorry for the explination if you already know this

*EDIT*
Ok I was wrong, I looked at the application and it says that it can be used with the gen 2 motors. But when all of the other replacments are over $250 and that one is only $80 it makes me wonder.

But I did find a pic of the water pump drive gear that on the back of the timing gear

Ok I understand the explanation but don't understand why I can't use the stock gear on the wp with this cloyes chain? pic doesn't work btw.

His original link shows that it fits stock LT1s, so I don't see any reason why it would not work.

Well the pic did work before and now it doesn't. I was wrong, I assumed that the timing chain that you listed was for a gen1 motor and I was wrong.

If the top gear for the timing chain has a big gear on the backside like in the picture above it will work, otherwise you will have to either use an EWP or get the expensive timing set.

I have found that the chain for the set listed is quite loose on the stock cam gear, lots of slack, buy the whole set or forget it IMHO.

this chain does include different gears so I imagine they would take up the slack. Did you use just the chain?

I bought the replacement chain for this set thinking I could use my gears (that were in excellent shape) but when I mocked it all up the chain had over a 1/2 inch of slack, I went with the full set and the chain was fine. the teeth appear to be slightly different than the stockers.

Is that a typo for the price on the comp cams timing set? That's awfully high.

I have this same set sitting in my room right now.. It looks just like the LT4 Extreme Duty. It does have the water pump gear on the back of the cam sprocket. I'll take some pics of it later on tonight and post them..
