Unhappy codes PO335 & PO336

P0335 Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor circuit
P0336 Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor circuit performance
I'm getting these codes ... two each, 4 codes. Does this mean the optispark is going out? I cleared them and they came back in less than 1 minute. Just a lack of power. Thanks for any help

I got those codes when my opti went out, but it doesn't necesarily mean its your opti unless its doing a bunch of other weird crap. What else is it doing?

Hmmm... do any pressure washes lately? You may have some water in your opti. I'm only asking about the Opti because i know what its like because mine went out, but it did things like make the RPM's jump like crazy, stall, stutter, misfire, run very crappy then stall again... If you don't notice anything like that then i gotta hand it over to someone else because i don;t know much about the camshaft and its sensors.

Nothing to do with the opti. It's the crankshaft position sensor like the codes say.

1996-1997 crankshaft position sensor
GM p/n 10456534
~$36.01

visual

All from my Tech Page.

You might want to test for proper voltage and ground at the connector or even see if it is connected.

The crank sensor should have nothing to do with drivability. It is only there for misfire detection. The PCM does not use it to control anything.

Re: codes PO335 & PO336

Are you saying there is no CKP sensor installed in the hole in your timing cover, or that there is no hole in the timing cover?

P0335 sets if there is no signal from the sensor. The signal will only occur if the sensor is reading the reluctor gear inside the timing cover, on the front of the crankshaft. P0336 sets when the crankshaft angle indicated by the CKP sensor is significantly different than the crank angle reported by the optical cam position sensor in the Opti distributor. With no signal at all, it’s conceivable P0336 would set as well.
