Re: Cold air intake question

Im not for sure on this, but can you get accurate measurements of air flow, just from the dimensions of something?

Velocity is not a concern in a CAI. A CAI's purpose is to make clean, readily available air w/ as little restriction as possible.
But, do you know about fluid dynamics. That's the key...

Yes you can, pm me if you want to know. It's not all that hard, just need some measurements of the sort.

As a matter of fact I studied fluid dynamics anditscorrespondencetothe fundamentalsoftheLT1coldairinductionassembly 101 while I was in college.

Re: Cold air intake question

OK here is my two cents on the subject. From the air filter to the plenum you want the least restriction possible at wot. Remember it is atmospheric pressure that is filling the plenum. Ideally you want zero pressure loss from the atmosphere to the plenum. Also the colder the air the better.

Now from the plenum to the intake valve is a whole nether matter. Here is where velocity takes over. With the proper intake manifold and heads it is quite possible to get over 100% volumetric efficiency.

Re: Cold air intake question

Comming from someone who did build their own CAI. You are better off buying one. I spent allmost as much on stuff to build it myself as a kit cost. Finding cone filters may be hard at a local parts store. I ended up using this verry tall can type filter, wich screwed the whole allignmnet needed way off. I will eventually buy one to replace my "custom" one. I think i used a link from www.f-body.org
