Coolant sensor?

Coolant sensor?
We were doing a header swap tonight and broke a sensor off tonight......Its on the Passenger side of the engine, its above the knock sensor. It has 2 wires going to it with a plug very similar to the knock sensor. I can't recall if it is on the head or the top of the block. I thought it was a temp sensor but on Shoebox's page, the temp sensor is on the drivers side.
Can anyone help me? I don't know what it is, I looked all over his site and couldn't seem to locate it. My first thought was the knock sensor but thats the one down close to the oil pan and the knock sensor only has 1 wire.
Also the ground wire for the PCM which attaches down near the starter is broken off. It's getting fixed but would it been affecting the way it ran?
Thanks guys!

This is what your looking for, its the Knock sensor on the side of the block. The one in this picture is out of a 95 Z, I,ll sell it to you cheap if you want it, $20 shipped and its yours.
There isnt any other sensor on the psg side other than the Knock sensor.

it's higher up.....I know where the knock sensor is, this is either close to the head or maybe in the head. I can't remember and the car isn't her right now. Theres 2 wires running to it unlike the single wire knock sensor

Sometimes if people want to add another temp sensor, like one for a fan switch, they will use the "extra" hole in the passenger side head. Since the same head is used on both sides of the engine, the plugged hole in the passenger side head for the temp sensor ends up between the #6 and #8 plugs.
Could that possibly be what you saw?

well it's a re-manufactured shortblock from AC-Delco but other than that it's all stock. Theres no other temp gauges on it. It has a connector very similar to the knock sensor but this one has 2 wires running to it. The engine has the temp sensor on the drivers side. Now I wish that i could remember if it was in the head or the block......I guess I will snap a pic of it tomorrow and post it

It shouldn't be there on an F-body, unless someone added it or left over from a non-f-body car. Does your reman engine have aluminum heads? You need to find out where the wires are going to.

It's in the head and the 2 wires run to the harness on the passenger side wheel well, which is in front of the PCM.....I'll get a pic of it later tonight

I believe what you're referring to is the coolant temp sensor for the dash gauge. On "Y" body cars (Vettes) it's screwed into the passenger side head and the corresponding hole in the other (driver's side) head is plugged.
On 'F' body (and perhaps other body cars) it's in the DRIVER'S side head and the passenger side head has the plug. So they're installed just the opposite. GM just LOVES to change things.
Now, since the heads are interchangeable side to side - meaning either head can be used on either side of the block, the sender/sensor may just need to be swapped.

But the head coolant temp sensor is only a 1-wire sensor in the F-Body. A 2-wire connection still makes me think someone added an aftermarket fan switch.

Precise language and word useage would help. "It has two wires going to it . . ." if it has two wires, then it's a simple matter or tracing the wires to see where they go. If he means the sensor is set up to accept a two wire connector, that's something different.
Either that or someone just used an old sensor to plug the hole instead on installing an actual PLUG in the hole.
Question now is, is there electrical wiring and plug in that area? Is there anything that would plug into that sensor/sender? If none is there, then looks like it may just be a sensor/sender used as a plug.

Not to me it isn't or I wouldn't have responded as I did. The explanation is dis-jointed and too hard for me to follow.
"Once upon and time . . .", ". . . and they lived happily ever after" is the preferred way.

You seem to enjoy arguing semantics..... this is a tech forum, not English class.
