I told you in the other thread. The sensor for the coolant that the computer sees is in the water pump. The sensor for the gauges on the dash is on the drivers side head.

Take the intake elbow off and look down at the water pump, there is a brass fitting with a sensor and a plug. That is it, sticking towards the front of the car.

There's the low coolent sensor and the Coolant temp sensor.

It's nice you're trying to help, but it's pretty irrelevant.

Question Re: Coolant temp sensor location?

Okay well im pretty sure tis the coolant temp sensor, but just wondering is there anything else you guys can think of that would cause the fans not to go on? Also im gonna put the sensor in myself, so is there anything i need to know for this procedure?

Once you take out the old sensor, have the new one ready to go in or you'll be losing some coolent.

Did you bother to read the "topic", or his initial post..... it's pretty clear.

Re: Coolant temp sensor location?

What matty said, either drain the coolant, or replace it fast. If the motors are good, and the relay is good (I haven't heard of a relay going bad yet) than it's the sensor.

About the coolant temp sensor and low coolant sensor. The temp sensor is in the front of the water pump. The low coolant sesnsor is in the resevior tank of the coolant system. The low coolant is hard to get at, and does not tell the fans to not turn on. It only senses the coolant is low and turns the gauge light on in the dash

You're hurting your chances of getting a good answer by shotgunning posts all over the place, and highjacking other threads. Suggestion - post the problem once. Fully explain the problem and what you've done to solve it. Add a "signature" so people have basic info like the year of your car, tranny, major mods, etc.

What temperature is the coolant getting to? What temperature do you expect the fans to come on? The stock setting turns the 1st fan (or low speed - depends on the year of the car) on at 226degF, 2nd fan (or high speed) at 235degF. Is your coolant getting above those temps? Are you basing your response on the dash gauge, which is driven off a different sensor, and not necessarily accurate?

Re: Coolant temp sensor location?

okay will do about the signature! As well as the shotgunning! But anyways, the tempature is going up to 80% of the gauge, before i turn my car off too prevent any damage. Fans do not go on after car is turned off at all. Fans did turn on once the car got up too that 3-4 mark, cool off to 1/2, and so on when i was playing with the air conditioner. Anyways im pretty sure my gauge is correct and the temp is hot cause it caused my lower rad hose to buldge in a spot, and it all together feels hotter then it should. Anyways i need to replace the hose tommarrow one way or another, so while im at it im gonna replace the sensor anyways for the 15 bucks. Then we can see where that gets me. Just still wondering if there is anything i need to consider while changing this sensor? also what do you guys temp run at idle normally? thanks-danny. ps this is my A4 camaro.

Re: Coolant temp sensor location?

When changing the sensor, do NOT, under any circumstances allow the coolant to drip on the Optispark distributor. If you do, there's a 90% chance your next set of questions will be "why is my engine running so rough?" or "why won't my engine start?"
