Re: Cooling problem

one more question, would my head gasket be going out?? my dad had an old work truck that would heat up about like my car, and just like my car, unless the fans were on high or you were on the highway it was way over 210. well in my dads truck they tried replacing everything just like i have and in the end it ended up being a head gasket that was leaking and about ready to go out.

could it be my head gasket??? the car has 103,000 miles on it and here lately i have been running quite a few 150 shots through the car.

The pressure of the closed system raises the boiling point, anti-freeze does just what it's name implies. I run distilled h2o, Water Wetter and rust inhib/pump lube in the summer. Temp never gets over 180* w/160* stat and reprogrammed fans, sitting in traffic on a 100* day.

97formulakid -- If the rad fins are plugged up with dust and crap it'll have a huge negative effect on the cooling ability. Unless you want to recharge the a/c, leave the condenser hooked up and pull the rad and thouroughly clean it without bending over the fins. Blow out the condenser from the back while it's in the car and the rad is out. Put her all back together and fill with whatever mix you decide. Once you've bled of the air from both bleeders (make sure you don't get it all over your opti) and topped it off, make sure the cooling system is building pressure. Let it warm up and the rad hoses should be firm if you try to squeeze them -- remember they're hot. If they are easy to squeeze, you have a bad cap or other pressure leak in the system. A bad cap will allow coolant to boil and it will be lost out the overflow tank overflow so there is very little to no evidence of a leak anywhere but you'll keep having to add fluid like you stated. A new cap is a lot cheaper and easier than yanking the heads Hope this helps.
