cooling system question
ok so ive been fighting a few water leaks on my car and i think i have them all fixed but im not sure... i cant tell if im loosing water or not. If i look in the radiator when the car is off (and cold) i see no antifreeze, but if i look in the reservor when its ~190* the little plastic strip indicates that it is full...
O and another thought, this morning it was about 25* outside when i started it, let it warm up and came back out to notice that there was still white colored smoke coming out the tail pipes... like the same color it produces on a cold start just not near as much. car was at about the 210 mark on the guage and it was idling so i revved it a little and got more white smoke... is that normal? lol its been a while since ive drove it in the dead of winter, i can't remember how much they smoke in the cold

Re: cooling system question
When the cooling system is cold and the radiator cap is removed, coolant should be up to the neck of the radiator. If it's not, add more coolant to bring the level up.
The white "smoke" you see is normal on a cold morning.

Re: cooling system question
The reservoir being full, and the radiator not full may indicate a problem with the rubber hose from the fill neck to the reservoir, or the metal tube it connects to on top of the reservoir (under the battery). If the rubber hose is cracked or there is a corroded hole in the metal tube, the vacuum that forms as the radiator cools can not pull replacement coolant from the reservoir.
