Question Cost of 96 Formula?

I was looking into buying this 96 formula thats in my city. But they finally decided on a price to sell it for. They took it somewhere and a guy told them that the car is worth $12k because they have been discontinued. I was wondering how much yall would say a completely stock 1996 Formula with about 51k miles on it should go for. Kelley Blue Book value for the condition it is in right now is $8,380. So help me out here.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

I got my 93 Formula three years ago w/ 19K, one owner who traded it in for a new TA, basically mint condition and I paid 11,000. It was above book value at the time but not by too much and it was worth it in my mind. I don't think the discontinued issue really applies to that car. 12K seems slightly high but it's your $$, do YOU think it's worth paying that much over book value? Is it one owner? Run a Carfax?

Just last June, I purchased my 96 Formula for $9,200. At the time it was slightly below average retail for the car in my area. Mine had 63,680 on it when I bought it. Oh, the dealer threw in a couple of minor repairs AND a brand new set of Kuhmo Ecsta 711s and STILL cut the price from 9450 to 9200.

Hey yall. I do think that it is too much for the car. It is in nice condition, just little blemishes in the paint and needs to be reapolstered, but it isnt worth 12k. They have been the only owners. Another thing wrong with it might be the tranny. They are letting a guy "rent" it from them so he has a car, and he says it seems like something is wrong with the transmission. I am not sure. when it is in reverse and the back end goes left, it sounds bad at times, like something is grinding. Not sure what that is. They said that they have taken it in several times for that, but the shop/whatever said nothing is wrong BULLSH*T. So no i dont think it is worth 12k, but how much do yall think it would be worth. Cause like URAPNES said, discontinued shouldnt apply. That should only apply on the oldies, anniversary editions, and the collectors edition. But if anyone can give me info then cool.

Thanx
Tony

I'd run from it unless they literally cut the price in half and even then I personally wouldn't want it. That is a long list of problems/repairs to start your ownership with and those are just the ones that are obvious or known to you. Check out autotrader.com if you want to get a good idea on what's available and the prices.
