Cracked head. What are my options??
Well, while I was off in Bulgaria serving my country, my dad blew a head gasket, possibly cracked a head. So what are my options now? While the engine is out I feel like I might as well start upgrading the completely stock engine. What do you guys think?
Is buying new heads the best route? which ones? from who? how much?
Should I attempt to p&p my stock heads? ( if not cracked )
Should I do a cam as well?
You guys know the ins-and-outs so any information would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Josh

The first course of action... figure out the extent of the damage.
May be that the head is just a little warped. Best bet is to take them to a reputable builder and have them check the head over for cracks/warpage. If they have some warp, you may be able to salvage them with some machining of the deck surfaces. If cracked, I'd chunk the casting unless I already had alot of money in the port work. Just not economical to fix a casting that you can find for ~$150.
Then you go from there.
As far as the stock casting is concerned, they are good for 400-450rwhp NA. Don't know your goals but that's a good deal of HP for a street engine. And yes, I'd definitely upgrade the cam in order to take advantage of the modifications.

If it's cracked you need new heads. What you do fromt hat point is up to you - heads are expensive. If you're on a budget i would probalby just get another set of stock LT1 heads as they can be had pretty cheap and there's a lot you can do with the stock heads.
