Crane 227 advice

Crane 227 advice
So I picked up a fresh 355 LT1 with mildly ported heads. It has a Crane 227 cam installed however they used 1.5 rockers. My original plan was to go with a 230/236 compcam. I am curous what peoples opinions are on this setup. I am debating giving the 227 a try. I have read it used to be a quick cam. This will be a daily driven trans am. It is running a T56 with Spec 3 clutch and 4.11 Gears, 1 3/4" LT headers.
If I stay with the setup "crane 227 1.5rockers" what can I expect for times and power?
If I go with the 230/236 cam that my buddy will give me a deal on what would I expect?
Thanks!

Re: Crane 227 advice
the 227 is a torque monster. It would put out some more HP with 1:6 RR vs the 1:5
it is a smaller cam than something in the 230/236 range so it won't make as much HP at higher rpm's as that cam but will likely have more low end TQ...

Re: Crane 227 advice
you should see about 10hp more with 1:6 RR over 1:5
I have seen cars run 13.xxx with a 227 but it is all variable as to what other mods, gearing, track conditions, driver each car has
227 is considered more a mild cam, emission friendly and works ok with stock gears & stall.
with a good tune and M6 it should do well but there are other cams that will certainly out perform it in terms of 1/4 mi times. The 227 has been around since the mid 90's. Custom grinds from Lloyd Elliott or Advanced Induction for the LT1 will out perform just about any off the shelf cam
If you are going bigger than the 227 you may need to up the # on your injectors and also FP (255 LPH Walbro) so consider those additions when picking a cam
