Crank Position Sensor is Leaking Oil

Has anyone had this happen before? Do I simply need to replace the sensor? I had some maintenance done at the dealership and they found this problem, however I have yet to see any drops of oil on my driveway.

There's an O ring that goes on the sensor. Try replacing that.

Re: Crank Position Sensor is Leaking Oil

Mine leaked from the day I bought it to the day I sold it (2 engines, 3 cams, and 80k miles). I tried RTV, a blokc off plate (I ditched the sensor altogether), and it still leaked. It never affected oil level or did I consider it a "deadly" oil leak.

Think I could get away with just putting some RTV around my current sensor? It's not throwing any codes. Isn't the RTV sealant messy too? I won't have a problem getting the sensor off down the road will I?

I assume I have to drain my oil to change the sensor? I know, dumb question ...

You don't have to drain the oil to change the crank position sensor.

Digging up an old thread - looks like I have the same problem. Just wondering how you made out EviLBoX - did you stop the leak - and how? I read that the sensor is sealed by and O ring - is that a dealer item? Also - looks like the sensor is just one bolt and it slides right out - is that right?

1996-1997 crankshaft position sensor seal
AC-Delco # 219-194
GM p/n 10476885

The sensor slides straight out after the retaining bolt is removed.
