Crank trigger w/Optispark

I'm using an Accel Gen 6 DFI ECU to control the fuel injection system on my race car. I'm looking to take the primary ignition function out of the Optispark and switch to a crank trigger.

I assume I still have to use the rotor and cap section of the Optispark to distribute the spark, right? Can the optical sensor part be removed or does it just stay in place and not get used?

You can run the Accel with only a crank trigger, but you are limited to batch fire or "bank-to-bank" injection. You can not use full sequential with only a crank trigger.

You are going about it just the opposite of the way most people do it. Most of us delete the high voltage function from the Otpi, and use the optical section for the crank and cam position. I run that way, feeding the Opti pulse signals to a MoTeC M48Pro, and then using their IEX 8-channel driver to run 8 LS1 coils in direct fire. George Baxter's 9.04-second 30th SS convertible used the same system. I'm pretty sure FAST can do the same thing with the Opti pulses, although it may require the eDIS unit. If you search on "Advanced Tech", there is a thread showing a setup done by NE Dyno, that uses a crank trigger, and a home brew cam position sensor, along with the FAST/eDIS to totally eliminate the Opti.

If you don't use the Opti optical section, I'd certainly stay away from the high voltage section, and go to a "lost spark" ignition using the Electromotive 4-coil pack setup in direct fire. Why limit yourself with a mechanical distributor, particularly one that is susceptible to moisture problems?
