Crankshaft pulley how to

Alright looking for some tips on removing the crankshaft pulley. Trying to change out the opti and appearently the pulley needs to come off as well. Any ideas on how to break the bolts loose and remove the pulley would be great.

Thanks

Remove the bolts with a socket and wrench. If it doesn't fall off pull on it.

Remove the 3 bots that is holding it to the crank hub, trying tapping on it with a dead blow, rubber mallet..if that does not work use a 3 jaw puller and it should come off fairly easy.

From Shoebox:

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html

Remove crank pulley (three 5/8" bolts). Use claw puller if needed. The 1996-97 pulley may have some threaded holes in it between the spokes and look slightly different. You can use the threaded holes and a normal balancer puller (crow foot) to pull it off.

Do NOT hammer or lever on the outside edge of the damper. You will destroy the rubber ring that holds the inner and outer parts of the damper together.

PS: You need to add a "Signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. That helps us hlp you.

Originally, it was a loose fit. When my car was new, the first time I pulled the 3 bolts out, it fell off. But at this point in your car's life, unless it's been pulled recently, the pulley/damper is fused to the hub with rust.

Re: Crankshaft pulley how to

Thanks guys.... I was really looking for some thoughts on getting the bolts broken loose while not spinning the pulley. Is there a spot where I can put a screwdriver or something to keep this pulley from moving?

Thanks,

Justin

If it's a 6 speed just leave it in gear and break them loose. If it's an auto you can leave the belt in place until you break the bolts loose.

Again, a signature with some car info would speed up and insure correct responses that apply to your car. I've pretty much stopped posting help to threads with no car info. I figure if there is no effort to give car info, then the person is not serious about wanting help.
