Crate motor with mild cam VS. Built motor?

This should seem like a stupid question... but I'm REALLY up in the air right now. I figure it'd cost close to the same to build both motors... at least I'm assuming, but I'm REALLY leaning towards putting a crate motor with a nice cam (cc305 or close) in it and just drive it, plus bolt ons.

Honestly what would a decent 383 build cost? And what would you do?

no, that little *** car is getting an LS1. Watch the lobby within the next 30 minutes or so for my explanation.
