curious: Delteq?

Re: curious: Delteq?
I've had mine since last year and love it. Clean and simple install, runs great and well worth the $$$ IMO. I've noticed it's MUCH smoother all the way through the RPM range and the only downside I have noticed is that there is a very slight hesitation on startup. That and the wires have the stock routing which is a PITA so you have to be careful or you'll end up with a crispy wire.
Make sure that the problem with your opti isn't the optical wheel or sensor....the current Delteq still requires that to function.

With the OEM cap-and-rotor setup, the rotor is mechanically coupled to the camshaft and is always synchronized to the firing order -- even when the engine isn't running.
But, the Delteq delay is slight.

Re: curious: Delteq?
It's not a delteq, but i might have an LTCC setup, with coil packs, plug wires, and hi temp plug wire boots for sale soon. I need to get under the car tomorrow and see what the issue is, I think the opti might not be my problem. PM me if interested.

Re: curious: Delteq?
My Delteq has been problem free so far...the install was easy and it has been running great ever since. The only thing I've noticed is a slight miss now and then, but I think that one of the wires may be burned. I'll probably end up buying a better set of wires at some point and routing them differently to keep them from getting fried. Other than that, it has been well worth the money.

Re: curious: Delteq?
Very happy Delteq customer here. I seen some nice before after gains on the track and on the dyno with it. I went with the radiator shroud mount. And let me tell you, install is awesome, and easy.
But I will tell you this, REPLACE YOUR OPTI if you go with the Delteq. Basicly you have a 50/50 chance that the delteq will work if your current opti has issues. If the optical sensor part of the opti is bad, then your going to still have problems with the delteq. So replace the opti, put the delteq in, and say goodbye to any of your ignition problems for good!

Re: curious: Delteq?
I don't feel the the justification for the delteq. Not to say its a horrible product but now with autozone and O'reilly's both now offering lifetime warranties for optisparks and rotors, its crazy not to just get one from them.

Re: curious: Delteq?
I don't mean to be punk or anything. Most of us guys running the delteq notice a gain in driveability and performance in our vehicles after the delteq. I my self, have seen a big difference.
IMO the single coil setup, and opti, just isn't cutting it, if you plan on building up your LT1.
You can not get rid of the opti 100% unless you move to a regualar distributer, or goto a crank trigger type ignition, and move to different engine management system.
The pcm needs low and high resolution signals from the optical pick up of the opti. The optical part of the opti isn't the problem, that causes opti's to fail. its cap and rotar part of the opti. Heat builds up, and causes moisture build up, which brings corroision problems to the table. Once you goto the delteq or ltcc , it no longer uses that part of the opti. So your opti doens't run into those porblems anymore.
As for the non believers. I will just say this, the last time I was at NHRA divisional race event, I got to talk to a guy running comp elimintor or super stock. And he was running an LT1, and his brother was too. He pretty much explained to me, that all of the LT1s in that class run into problems with the opti failing. For that reason they run a crank trigger system, with FAST or DFI EFI engine management system.
Should evreyone move to the delteq? No.
IMO, if your looking to eliminate the know porblems of the opti, and are sick of replaceing them, get it!
If you are looking to get the most out of your combo, and feel your car isn't getting the spark it needs in the upper rpms, get it!
If your a non believer and aren't sure GET IT! Try it for your self. And quit crying. How can you bad mouth somthing you haven't tried. I'm not saying anyone in this thread is badmouthing it. But I have been on other posts where people who haven't even tried the unit, feel that they can knock somthing they havent tried.

Well Damn, Whats The Point Of The Delteq If You Still Have To Use The Opti??

Re: curious: Delteq?
It is interesting to note that the GM High-Tech Performance magazine article on Joe Overton's 9-second NA T/A points out that he runs the stock Opti, a single Accel coil, and an MSD-6AL on his car, at 8,000RPM. He does use an Accel/DFI Gen 7, but it still uses the stock "style" ignition.
Several of us have used the optical section of the Opti for several years now, to feed an aftermarket ECU and 8-channel ignition drivers.... it provides an extremely accurate ignition and injector timing signal. Between a friend of mine, and my self, we have 10 cumulative years of operation in this mode, with no Opti problems of any kind. His car was producing 1,125HP at 8,000RPM.

Re: curious: Delteq?
After seeing the article on Joe's transam, i'm sticking with the opti. I might opt for the MSD upgrade, but i'm sticking with it. I thinking of running a MSD Digital-6, MSD Blaster coil, along with the MSD cap and rotor....what are your thoughts on that?

Re: curious: Delteq?
I just bought the delteq system a few weeks ago and I love it. Install was very easy and I too have noticed driveability as well as performance gains with the setup. Most importantly though, it fixed my miss After having to replace the cap and rotor on my opti twice within 4 months, it was well worth it.
