Are you still stock optispark? And how the heck do you get them to hold up to 8k rpms?
Is there any secret to it? Or do you just go through them alot? Just wondering.
Thanks for your time, and good luck this racing season.

Mike , its actually a oem 94 optispark and knock on wood 4 years and counting.. I replaced the original 4 years ago just to put a new one on ..but nothing was wrong with that one either,I keep it for a spare...so to answer your question I've actually never had to replace a bad opti since I bought the car in 95'.....no tricks I just found the pre 95' to be the better unit...only downfall is theres not many options for timing chain sets for that opti...

Re: curious: Delteq?
Here's some info I haven't ever seen on any of the boards that I just found out about a few days ago. When running the delteq you have to run the dis-4(which I knew) and it's almost $400 from summit. But what delteq(or the sellers) don't tell you is that you also need an interface adapter for the northstar coils for each coil, and they cost $25.88 each from summit. So figure $620 for the delteq, $400 for the dis-4, and another $110(after summits handling charge) for the interface adapter and thats a lovely total of $1130. Could have just spent $130 on a new cap/rotor, then $230 on a hyfire VI and been set and even had more options(since the hyfire VI has more options than the dis-4) and saved $770 and had a lifetime guarentee on the opti also. Plus changing the opti really isn't that bad, especially if you only have to do it ever 25-75k miles.

Re: curious: Delteq?
The DIS-4 was known, as well as the interfaces...
I don't know of any place with the "lifetime" guarentee on the Opti's, even Autozone who did have it canceled it due to too many failing.
I got my complete Delteq setup for $500 (If you buy the parts seperately), and you can find the interfaces and DIS-4 for cheaper than the prices you listed.
If you stay with the Opti setup, hey that might be fine for you, but I've eaten 3 of them in 25k miles... and every time I have to replace it, even though it doesn't take a lot of time, it is a pain to do. Not to mention if you start running a higher-engery coil and a "MSD" box on them you will eat the di-electric even faster than stock and will be replacing them even more; seeing this is the part of the Hi-Voltage that fails.
But like has been said, this mod, just like any other mod is not for everyone, you personally have to decide whether you want to do it or not. Just like Long Tubes, Catbacks, Intakes, Heads, Cams, etc... just like EVERY OTHER MOD there are Pluses and Minuses...

I didn't know autozone quit their lifetime warranty, as of about two weeks ago they still had it going because I went up to autozone with my buddy to get the warranty and they exhanged the opti without any questions.
You can always go used or find parts on the board to get cheaper prices, but your not going to find the dis-4/interface adapters all that much cheaper. To me the opti isn't a pain to do to me, but I guess to others it isn't such an easy task. Also I was just letting anyone know who didn't know about how expensive it can get after having to get the dis-4 and interface boxes. I am actually running a delteq and the dis-4/interface adapters are going on in the next few days.
Your right its not for everybody, thats why my buddy is going to be pulling his delteq off soon so it'll be for sale in about a week or so for a lot cheaper than a new one for anyone who is interested.
