It IS an automatic, use OD

Unless you're a ricer, than you should manually shift your A4

i use DRIVE when in town or under 45 mph. OD on the highway. I have a transgo shift kit and a rebuilt tranny with all the upgrades so it holds overdrive and lock up real well so i can toe into it without kicking it down, but on a stocker they have a tendencey to go in and out of overdrive below 45. hope this helps.
