Question Delteq and Timing

While rebuilding a '96 LT1 and using a Delteq, is it important to set the timing gears at 12 o'clock and the opti dowel pin at 9 o'clock as per HPBooks "How to Rebuild SBC LT1/LT4 Engines" instructions? I already installed the TC cover and I forgot to set the gears and I thought that using a Delteq might eliminate the need for this. Sorry if this is a dumb question, Im a noob. Thanks

Re: Delteq and Timing

gears have to be set proporly, pull the cover off and line them up or it will never run.

I think I have the gears set right, they just are not at the 12 o'clock position, they are both at the 1 o'clock position. Does it really matter?

If they were originally set at 12 and the cam gear installed and tightened, but since then both have moved when the crank was rotated, then that is ok. For the opti install the dowel can be in any position as long as the special slot is lined up and put over it.
Setting the cam and crank gear dots is for correct valve timing and must obviously be done first.
