Deprogram computer LT1

I am trying to take the program out of the computer in 94Z so I can put a program in 95Formula. I followed the steps in Hypertech instruction book, but the programer says it can't comminicate with the computer. There is no eng. in car nor a battery, do I need a battery to wake computer up so programer can communicate with it. I took the computer out and unpluged and pluged back in to be sure of connections. What the heck do I need to do, HELP! somebody. Danny Mc

The car needs the battery on and the key turned to on most likely (though you shouldnt need an engine)

Yes, the key should be to the run position. Or else, make sure there is power to the PCM.

So far the concensus of opinion is. "I gotta have a battery in the car". If that don't work I will put the Z computer in Formula and try to erase there, then put Formula computer back in and try to program. Danny Mc

I hooked a 6amp battery charger to pos and ground, Viper alarm sys. went off, I waited till it quit then hit buttom 10x that is supposed to get it back in sync. Computer still won't communicate /programer. Can I put computer in 95 Formula, not to start it just be able to get program out, I think the Viper still has me blocked, don't know just a guess. I really don't know where the computer ground is or what wire. Danny Mc

You should be able to put it into your formula and then pull the program from it...

I swapped the computers from 94Z to 95 Formula, guess what the ports under dash are different- back to square one. I don't think I can use the M6 computer on Auto car. Did find computer is good, started car but did not attempt to drive. I got to find why I get no communication on Z car. Any one can tell me where the computer ground wire is, could be whats wrong, who knows!! I am following the book. Hypertech was no help. FLASH!! A guy just called me and said computer needs at least 8amps so 6amp battery charger won't work, now going to get battery and try again. Danny Mc
