Did i buy the wrong valve springs?

I just bought a new cc305 cam and the comp cam springs to go with it. Today when i went to put the springs on they didnt seem to fit on the head. The hole in the center of the spring is a bit smaller then my stock ones? Did the guy from summit give me the wrong springs?

did they come with retainers and seats? some of comps stuff requires the heads to be machined, but i ouldnt think that reccomended hardware for the 305 or 306 would. thats my best explanation. do the springs have a part number on them? what did you end up doing with the install?

They came in a box with JUST the springs, nothing else.
PN: CCA-938-16
What springs SHOULD i have? These springs were $70. You guys have anything around that price range?

Re: Did i buy the wrong valve springs?

hey i just bought a cc 304 camshaft and bought the springs that the cam called for cc 983-16. went to install them and they would not fit over the lower part of the spring shim. called comp they said they would work i told him they would not fit, and he started saying about how i would have to have the bosses machined. i ask him i thought they were a direct replacement he said they were supposed to be. so when i got off the phone with him i called the dealer ship and talked to a friend and he said they ran into a problem like that before, and they orderded a set of lt4 springs that you would do the swap on, and they would fit. so i will see if that is true thursday.

Same the springs wont fit. Like i said they are a bit smaller. So what should i do? Take the springs back from summit and get new ones? Does summit even have springs that would fit my car?(with the cc305) Pain in the *** to drive all the way out their again. Boy are they gonna hear it. Will LT4 springs handle a CC305 with no problem?

Re: Did i buy the wrong valve springs?

the guy at the dealer said thy would lift to 525. the 983 springs are .836 i.d. the valve guide is close to .900 o.d. so i will know thursday when i pick them up because i will bring my head with me with one valve out of it. the cost was around 35.00 for the set.

Let me see if that matches my part number, If it does, send them back and get the Kmotion ones unless you want This to happen

I broke 5 of the springs comp and summit recommended

Re: Did i buy the wrong valve springs?

just got my springs on. they are a lt4 replacement spring up to .525 lift. i will not have a problem with them ,i am only useing a 304 comp cam its lift is .510. and the springs do not coil bind.

Sorry for your problem, but the it is very unlikely to be the springs. Five defective springs? I doubt it. You probably did not set the heads up right.

Same EXACT thing i did. I went to summit today and got the LT4's. I have the cc305 though. It dosint exceed 510 lift aswell. Happy to hear they will fit without any modification!
