differences between intake elbows?
the are several companies making intake elbows for the lt1 . any one know if there are any significant differences?
i know some are jet-hot coated for the sake of heat soak, and some have dividers through the center....do these things help/hurt?
any ideas or experiences?

i got mine from crt performance... fitament is pretty rough..... made from aluminium, painted black, cheap rubber hoses, but cheaper than any other elbow and it came with an air foil....

I got the crt as well..its tough to get it on the first time but after a while the couplers get pretty easy to get on and off. I would recommend it if you don't feel like dishing out the money for a trickflow, or dealing with the rubber ones anymore.

i dont dought that the 1le is an imrpovment over the stocker, but the idea of polishing your intake and heads is to remove any dumps or dips in an effort to smooth the flow of airi.e.- to make it move faster.
that having been said, the 1le is nothing but dumps and dips......i dont see it performing as well as the others.....i hope you dont think im tryin to be an ***, that is just what i think of the 1le.
(not to mention the cost comparison!)

The Vortec elbow has the divider plate in it where as the Trickflow is an open elbow. I'm guessing the divider plate is just a means in directing airflow. But what it all comes down to, they both remove the air silencer and smooth out airflow. However, any performance gains are very minimal and go unnoticed.

The dips in the 1LE elbow are not going to be a significant power restriction untill oh... about 800 horsepower maybe and thats only because the sucker would probably start to collapse or explode depending on how you go about making 800 horses. of course if you're concerned about smootheness you could always fabricate your own out of fiberglass... its actually easier than it sounds, just get a big block of wax, shape it like you want, fiberglass it up (about 20$ for the necessary stuff to do fiberglass at wal-mart (I recommend the cloth, not the mat) wrap the fiberglass around the wax, do the resin and let it set. then find rubber connectors to make the connection, voila cheap smooth elbow

I have an aluminium ceramic coated trickflow elbow but I'm thinking about replacing it. Although it looks nice it still gets really hot. I'd get an 1LE without the sound detinator just for the sake of keeping your air cooler. I'm not sure if the metal ones do flow better or not, but when it all comes down to the nuts and bolts I think there might be a 1 hp difference between the two.

I have had both the trick flow elbow and the 1le elbow as well. the dips you talk about on the 1le make it look like stock.there are no dips inside the 1le.it is smooth.so flows air nice and smooth flowing just like the trick flow one.there really isn't any significant horsepower gain with either one. like someone mentioned above the trick flow one is about looks.where a 1le one looks stock.all depends on what you want your motor to look like.sharp looking or stock.just my two cents.

Do dealers carry the 1LE elbow? Is it prone to tearing like the stock unit? How much is a 1LE? I was quoted a price of 50-60 for a stock replacement, and that was probably fairly cheap. The trick flows are like 90 and the adapters look like they would never tear.

The 1LE is roughly the same design as the stock one, it just wasnt cut out for the silencer. I'm quite happy with my 1le, but after realizing how easy it would be to make a fiberglass one I am quite tempted to make a fiber glass one to replace my 1LE

The ones with the center divider don't think are nessasary unless the air is being blown in, which is probally why the Vortec uses that design. Otherwise, you have to keep in mind the air is being sucked in, it goes towards the point of least pressure.
