Dilemma
My nonvented opti went out. I would like to convert to a vented opti. My friend tells me I have to pull the cam and grind the dowel pin down. I have about 400 to blow if I want. My friend tells me the lt4 hotcam kit is 500 w/ everything you need for the install. I can't afford 500.
Is there a cheaper mild cam I could shove back into the motor on a stock valvetrain? Car has 140k miles nad runs awesome. Or should I just stick with a non vented opti for now?
What would yall do?
Thanks

Re: Dilemma
You can replace the cam but at 140k miles you are definately in need of some valve springs, shims, locks, and retainers. You can get a lightly used lt4 cam out of the for sale section or a similar one for 150 or less. Then get yourself a good valve spring set up. Check your pushrods and rocker arms for wear. Also replace the valve seals while you are in there. Seals are dirt cheap. It's possible that the roller lifters are worn so be sure to check them also. You can get a cam swap for ~300$ but that doesn't take worn parts into consideration. I'd save that 400$ and double it over time and replace all those parts at the same time.
