Do I have to actually remove the stock exhaust manifolds, or can I just unbolt them ?

Taking off heads to get them to machinist, to save some time can I just unbolt the exhaust manifolds to get heads out ?

You can try, but it's probably going to be pretty trickey to get the lower head bolts out with the manifolds right there. It'll probably take less time in the long run to just remove the manifolds.

Yeah once you get the manifold bolts out the only thing keeping them in the way would be the Y pipe bolts, so you might as well take em out and get them outta the way.
It will make things less frustrating.

I was able to get to the lower head bolts by just unbolting the manifolds, but it was a PITA! Next time, i'm gonna just drop the Y-Pipe. I'd recomend just droping the y-pipe like stated above.

I guess I will take all's advice and drop the y-pipe, I am just looking at those rusted bolts on the Y-pipe and I dont get good feelings, wonder if I should just break them all off and spend half a day drilling them out and replacing them, I'll have to do a searcg to see the part number for the studs.

you really need to hose all the bolts down with pb blaster a few hours before you take them out. Thye Y-pipe bolts are probably going to break anyway, so get ready for it...

Or you could replace them with some used headers which you can get as low as $100 sometimes, so you don't have to worry about broken Y-pipe bolts

I PBed them yesterday so we'll see in a hour or so.

I hosed mine down with PB and let them sit overnite and all 6 of them came out easy.
Too bad I was not reusing them.
The headers made up for it though.
