Does it hurt the a4 mannually shift?

Imo i think it does hurt the tranny. But it depends mostly on what your doing when your manually shifting. If your really getting on it i would say yeah. I would just leave it in D. In my past experiences with automatics it's not a good idea to do it all the time. Ecspecially without a good shift kit in there.

I do it every now and then. I never downshift manually though. Speaking of shift kits and what not, anyone know if Hurst has a dual gate shifter for Camaros. I've seen them for other cars and liked em and wanted the dual gate shift kit for my 97 Z.

if you plan on racing on the road (not that i recommend it) i dont think you can beat an auto with a shift kit, downshifting manually... thats how i "get up to speed" when i need to suddenly.... i dont see how it could hurt anything. as long as im not doing it all the time, like if i was shifting it like it was a manual while i drive normal... thats gotta wear some stuff out...

And if you want to know why not to downshift... it'll destroy the overrun disk (or is it called an overrun clutch, I don't recall). I downshifted lots and lost it when I had my auto. Apparently the cops in our area get thier tranny's replaced every 6 months or so because of the same problem.

I do upshift at times, becasue my car dose move quicker like that. I have the 700R4, which I understand to make the deifference. I tried in my friend's 94 TA and it seemed to run slower then when you just left it in drive.

4L60E will react slower when upshifting when shifting manually. I had a 700R4 allso and manually upshifted too at the track. Only because the shift points for a 700 are determined by springs in the tranny, not electronically like the 4L60.
