Question Does this sound like a good 383?

Well my z28 is packing up the mileage almost to 140000 miles so i began thinking of getting a rebuild an converting to a 383 stroker. I found a short block which should save me some money, my question is can i use any of the old parts from my existing lt1 like heads intake etc? Also give opinions if i should replace anything on the short block. Check out the link for the specs.

My thoughts are that you cannot use that in your car without new heads, etc and switching to a Gen 1 SBC platform. Thats not a very nice setup anyways. The internals aren't that good, and being 60 over theres no room for rebore in the future. i would steer clear.

I'd avoid that.

Its probably a Gen 1 SBC and not an LT1.

It will not work, plus those are not really good parts.

Thanks for the input, would the best way be to buy a stroker kit and use my current engine?

The best way is to re-use your block. Have a shop hot tank it to clean it, then bore the cylinders and do the proper clearances. Do not use stock LT1 heads unless you get them ported on a 383 -- it needs to breathe. LT4 intake is a good option, but a stock LT1 intake will suffice. Porting the intake only gains you about 10 HP or so. You will need almost all the internals to be brand new in order to make it worth while and reliable. I recommend forged internals for the later possibility of adding NO2 or SC. Too many variables to just go "one path" there are tons of options.
