Does this sound like tranny mount?

I have an a4. I noticed a repeated clunking noise from under the car today when I got on it a little from a stop sign. Later, tonight, I had my elbow resting on the console compartment whenever I got on it again, and I heard the clunking again and felt a thump through the console coming from the bottom of the car. It felt and sounded just like somebody under there with a hammer hitting the bottom of the console a few times... made the loose change rattle. It only does it a few times and quits, and only when I'm on it in 1st. Seems to be no problem in 2nd.

I did a little searching on here, and sounds like this could be my tranny mount that's broken!?

I've noticed alot of people replacing their mounts with a 1LE mount, why is that? What should I shop for?

TIA.

Sounds like that could be the problem to me. When mine broke on my T56, the whole shifter would go up and down slightly. Mostly only when taking off or shifting into second gear. Also under hard acceleration.

I have an M6 and when my tranny mount went out the shifter would shake up and down bad.

That thunking noise your hearing could be your tranny hitting the bottom of the car.

Mine actually scratched the bottom of my car.

Thats exactly how mine felt when it broke on my A4. I just went to advanced and got one for like 20 bucks and installed it in about 20 minutes. Just a couple of bolts and your done.

Hmm, got any links for replacing the mount? I have no idea where it's even located... on top of the transmission I'm supposing.

I think it's just a metal piece that goes across the bottom of the tranny.

Here's a good pic of it, found it on Google. Just look at the metal beam thing that goes across the tranny with a bolt in the center and two bolts on each end:

Edit: It's not the glossy black square beam, it's the slightly curved, dull black beam in the center of the pic.

That metal piece is just the brace under the tranny mount. The stock tranny mount is rubber and it's on the underside of the tranny. 5 bolt to take it out. You take off that brace with the two bolts on the outside on each side. Then there is one in the middle that holds the mount. The mount typically breaks in half. Just use a jack to hold up the tranny when you take off that bracket. It's easy. You can get a polyurethane mount for like $27 or a OEM one for like $8 from AutoZone. Hope this helps.
