Doing the LE2 cam install this weekend
fellas,
I've decided to do my own cam install. I'm scared as hell...but excited at the same time. I've read over Shoebox's tech page and the cam install page on www.streetillusionsracing.com/install.htm
My question is...
1. when doing reassembly of the engine, did you all just tighen
the bolts as tight as possible or did you use the recommended
torque setting for each nut and bolt?
2. When I remove the hub...do I need to put my 6M in 6th gear so
that don't disturb the position of the crankshaft.
3. If I tear the oil pan gasket while trying to get to the cam, how
much of a delay will it be to install a new one ( I think mine is
already torn from a previous install because I do have a leak).
4. What is dino oil?
Thanks,
Tim

As far as when I did my cam. When I torqued my heads. I torqued them down 65flbs But I did the recomended torque pattern. On the last torque setting I torqued the bolts and loosened them three times That way I got a good consistent torque on all the bolts. I belive when you have the timing marks lined up for the crank and cam on the timing chain. There is a mark on the hup and it should be be facing straight up. As far as the oil pan gasket maybe someone else can chime in that has been in this situation and there outcome as well.
Good Luck to ya

just fallow the guide...its not hard.
If you run into any problems post them on here
btw Dino oil is just your cheap regular oil..not synthetic.
As far as the oil pan gasket goes, if it rips, just use tons of ultra black silicone on it and it should be fine
Hub...just put the tranny in gear....dosnt matter which one, as long as the back wheels arent turning

Thanks,
I've got to get a 3 jaw puller to get my hub off. The one that I bought took off the crank balancer, but the bolts supplied were not big enough to thread the crank bolts. Some were long enough to go all the way through the crank bolts and touch the timing cover. I didn't want to take a change on damaging the timing cover. My stock crank bolts were too big to go through the puller opening.
So far I've removed all the way down to the waterpump. I can't get the opti off because the hub is in the way.
I'll get a 3 jaw puller next week. The puller that I'll borrow/buy should be able to reach around the crank pully and actually lock onto the hub to pull it off. I would have done it today, but the wife & kid want some quality time. I probably could have gotten more done, but I took my time and camcordered everything as well as marking all wires and such with tape. I'm pretty pleased with the progress and proud of myself. When I think of the funds I spent paying someone to do my mods,,,,,I get sick to my stomach. You have to live and learn

Tim (Sorry so long)
