Drag?? '97 Camaro z28 or 2000 Mustang GT
I have a 1997 Z28, automatic tranny, stock engine no modifications at all! I only got a K&N filter on it. And one of my friends has a 2000 Mustang GT manual tranny also no modifications at all....He wanted me to drag with him....I really wanna know logically who is more powerful? i.e who gonna kick who's ***??? Im worried cos he has manual tranny, so may be that's more helpful than auto, and i dont really know about any other specs of the mustang....
Note: I've got 18 inch wheels on my car, so maybe they make my car a little heavier?!
Please help me out....

Well if he can drive the car to it's full potential than it will be very close but he will probably win but it is still worth a try because i know alot of guys who can drive a manual car great but get them in a race from a dead stop and they screw up big time.

I have beaten a couple of those. If you have traction, you should take him. I usualy nail it about 3/4 down off the line, then all the way down once it bites. If you lose traction off the line and he grabs, you will need some distance to catch up to him but eventualy you will. Top end you should eventualy overtake him.

Crap are mustangs really that fast now? i had a 96GT and had a crapload of stuff done to it and it was still slower than the 'bird i have now with just a couple things done. I had 3.73 gears hypertech chip, t-stat, pullies, march ramair, and a lot of stuff i can't think of right this second. I ran a best 1/4 mile time of 13.7 @ 103, with a 100 shot of nitrous! Granted it was an AOD but still, ford must have improved them to be able to hang with a mostly stock f-body!
Anyway just my 2 cents!

From a stop, you should be ok, but from a roll you will probably lose. Get a set of DR's and don't worry. Brake torque and launch. New GT's are about equal to stock LT1's. It comes down to the driver. If you squeal your tires off the line, you are in trouble, however, more than likely, he will launch to hard an bog anyway, just race and post the results in the Kill forum. Just to be sure, get a cutout (30$) and get it installed for insurance.

Just think of it this way....if you DON'T beat him - we will all laugh at you! LOL ...not really... but you SHOULD be able to take him...
I have a basically stock 350 tpi and my first kill was a 2000 GT...the guy wasn't too happy to be beaten by a girl...

You got him, who ever the guy who said that the New GT's are like the LT1 he is very very wrong. the new GT's run teh 1/4 in a 14.3-14.4. my best friend has a 2002 GT and when he first got it I laughed b/c my LT1 would kick his A$$, and both cars were stock and automatic trannys. EVEN the cobra's (well up to the new SVT 390HP cobra) will get beat by the LT1.
I am gussing you will put about 2 1/2 cars on him to 100 and Not that many people can drive a stick, just feather your car off the line and toast him. or get on the highway and do it. The LT1 won;'t take any crap off that Ford Believe ME I KNOW.

Have yall looked at the hp numbers they advertize on the ford site? They claim a stock GT makes around 260 hp that was for 2001 I think when i looked a while back, I don't think they really improved them at all. Even the older LT-1 cars make 275 supposedly, so I think you should be able to take him. 97's made what? 285? or suppose to.
So even if he gets a slight adv you should pull a tiny bit on him. not much though so dont' let him out too far.
Oh by the way, becarful if you race on the street, which I don't recommend! One wrong move on the street can send you into trees, whatever, you get the drift, Don't wanna sound like a parent but I hate to see nice cars get ruined!

I see plenty of LT1's at the track running low 14's just as I see many 99+ GT's running low 14's as well.
Fact is fact.. if you can't face that the GT has caught up to 10 y/o technology.. well, give 'em a little more credit They are about the same stock for stock.. although LT1's usually MPH better. Granted some cars are quicker than others.. and some people just can't drive. It should be easy to get a stock LT1 into the high 13's, but many don't.
