Pretty painless project, used a slender pry to removed it.
Hey! The front of your motor looks just like mine. I agree it was one of the few things that I've done on an LT1 that were actually easier than I thought.

What did you guys use to plug the hole in the timing chain cover? A freeze plug?

Haven't done it yet. But I've seen two different methods.

1. Short bolt with two washers and some sealant. Requires grinding down back of TC cover so that it is flush.

2. Freeze plug.

I'm going to try number two. If I cant find a plug of the proper diameter I'm then going to go with option 1.

can the hole just be left open without plugging it up or will that cause problems?? not the timing chain cover one the other one where the water pump drive was mounted

I left the one in the block open and have had no problems...

Why? J/K. Yeah I've had a 95 style opti since I've had the car. As for the hole in the block. I'm going to plug it, but I see no real reason to other than I'm a little **** about my car. There are two oil galleys right next to it, at about the same height, so I don't see how having another hole would cause any problems.
