Driveshaft Seal?

Driveshaft Seal?

Put my car up on the lift and the guy at my work told me it looks like i have a driveshaft seal leak. there is oil on the torque arm and on the body around the area.
Any suggestions to fix this? my dad said the seal is fairly cheap, but should i replace anything else while im in the area? also do u replace the bearing too?

do these cars have a "infamous" leak around this area?

The pinion seal is pretty easy to change. There is a torqe spec call on the pinion nut. Not sure what it is off hand. Typically the pinion seal goes bad when your driveshaft is not balanced correctly. The vibration of the driveshft knock the pinion out of place.

I think he means the tranny seal on the slip yoke.


Anyway, as long as there is not excess up/down/around play at the output shaft, just replace the seal. No real tricks to it.

There is also a bushing inside that you can replace if the output shaft is wallowing around. You will have to remove the tailshaft housing to do that, though.

right where the driveshaft meets the rear end. Oil leak spread around that regoin of the car.

Yeah, you're right. I got caught up in "driveshaft seal". He means pinion seal. I should pay more attention.
