Dropping the K member

I think i might have to do this to replace my oil pan, so what is involved? Can i just remove the three bolts on each side and let it hang from the struts? Someone help me out here with a breif step-by-step so i don't hurt myself or the car

I just loosened the bolts enough for the pan to slide out. I didn't take the bolts all the way out. Seemed to work ok for me.

3 bolts on each side of the k member and then the strut bolts.

Do you have a method to support the engine while the K-Member is dropped-down?

don't have to unbolt the shocks... just the 18mm k member bolts and the steering linkage (13 mm I believe?). then I guess you could hook up a engine hoist to the top of the engine to support it, while u drop the pan.

If you have an engine hoist there's no need to drop the K-member at all. When i was putting my 383 in i had the pan off two or three times while it was in the car. Taking the motor mount bolts out and lifting the front of the motor up a few inches gave me enough clearance to remove and install it with ease. This was all in my driveway too, so it's definately doable.

Also, i don't know if there is something built in that locates the k-member in the same spot every time, but if there isn't an alignment may be necessary if you drop the k-member.

you have an a4, its different when you have an M6.

I was thinking i would jack up the motor with my floor jack, then just drop the K member an inch or so if i have to.
